Compound probability distributions | Types of probability distributions
In probability and statistics, a compound probability distribution (also known as a mixture distribution or contagious distribution) is the probability distribution that results from assuming that a random variable is distributed according to some parametrized distribution, with (some of) the parameters of that distribution themselves being random variables. If the parameter is a scale parameter, the resulting mixture is also called a scale mixture. The compound distribution ("unconditional distribution") is the result of marginalizing (integrating) over the latent random variable(s) representing the parameter(s) of the parametrized distribution ("conditional distribution"). (Wikipedia).
COMPOUND Probabilities for Discrete Random Variables (9-6)
Compound Probabilities use the addition rule. To compute a compound probability, simply add the probabilities of each outcome.

Lognormal property of stock prices assumed by Black-Scholes (FRM T4-10)
Although the Black-Scholes option pricing model makes several assumptions, the most important is the first assumption that stock prices follow a lognormal distribution (and that volatility is constant). Specifically, the model assumes that log RETURNS (aka, continuously compounded returns)

Arithmetic (mean) versus geometric (median) stock return
The expected return of a stock is ambiguous because, if we assume returns are normal, then price levels are lognormal. In which case, the mean does not equal the median future stock price.
