The number e was introduced by Jacob Bernoulli in 1683. More than half a century later, Euler, who had been a student of Jacob's younger brother Johann, proved that e is irrational; that is, that it cannot be expressed as the quotient of two integers. (Wikipedia).
In this video I'm presenting a neat proof that e is irrational, using only calculus techniques, although I'm not even using that much calculus. It's elementary, but not easy! :) Enjoy!

From the creators of "e is irrational" comes now the proof that pi is irrational. This proof is originally due to Niven and only uses calculus, but it is very non-intuitive. That said, it is absolutely fascinating, so be prepared for a fun ride!

e + π or eπ might be Rational... but not BOTH!
e + π or eπ might be Rational. We just don't know. But we DO know that at least one of them is irrational. How could we know such a thing? Sometimes a mathematical proof provides only a hint.

The PROOF: e and pi are transcendental
Today’s video is dedicated to introducing you to two of the holy grails of mathematics, proofs that e and pi are transcendental numbers. For the longest time I was convinced that these proofs were simply out of reach of a self-contained episode of Mathologer, and I even said so in a video

Fermat's Last Theorem for rational and irrational exponents
