Abstract algebra | Linear algebra
In mathematics, the linear span (also called the linear hull or just span) of a set S of vectors (from a vector space), denoted span(S), is defined as the set of all linear combinations of the vectors in S. It can be characterized either as the intersection of all linear subspaces that contain S, or as the smallest subspace containing S. The linear span of a set of vectors is therefore a vector space itself. Spans can be generalized to matroids and modules. To express that a vector space V is a linear span of a subset S, one commonly uses the following phrases—either: S spans V, S is a spanning set of V, V is spanned/generated by S, or S is a generator or generator set of V. Linear Algebra - Lecture 8 - Span
In this lecture, we discuss the idea of span and its connection to linear combinations. We also discuss the use of "span" as a verb, when a set of vectors "spans" the entire set R^n.

Superior Spanning Sets - From Zero to Geo 1.7
Some spanning sets are better than others. But what are the properties that make one spanning sets better than another one? In this video, we focus on one important property that vectors can have: linear independence. This video was a pain to make! It took me a long time to find a way

Describing Many Vectors With a Few - From Zero to Geo 1.6
While we learned in the last video how to describe spaces with vectors, it can be helpful to be able to describe spaces with just a few vectors. In this video, we explore how to do this. This leads us to consider the important ideas of linear combinations and spans. This video is a part
