Statistical hypothesis testing

Alternative hypothesis

In statistical hypothesis testing, the alternative hypothesis is one of the proposed proposition in the hypothesis test. In general the goal of hypothesis test is to demonstrate that in the given condition, there is sufficient evidence supporting the credibility of alternative hypothesis instead of the exclusive proposition in the test (null hypothesis). It is usually consistent with the research hypothesis because it is constructed from literature review, previous studies, etc. However, the research hypothesis is sometimes consistent with the null hypothesis. In statistics, alternative hypothesis is often denoted as Ha or H1. Hypotheses are formulated to compare in a statistical hypothesis test. In the domain of inferential statistics two rival hypotheses can be compared by explanatory power and predictive power. (Wikipedia).

Null and Alternative Hypotheses in Statistics (7-8)

There are two types of hypotheses we need for hypothesis testing: the one we test (the null hypothesis) and the one that use instead if we reject the null hypothesis (the alternative hypothesis). The null hypothesis (H0) states there is no difference between the experimental (sample) mean

Step 2 – The Null and Alternative Hypothesis (8-6)

Step 2 in the five steps of hypothesis testing is to create a null and alternative hypothesis. The null hypothesis states that there is no difference between the sample mean and the population mean, so any differences are due to chance. The alternative hypothesis states that the sample mea

Why You Should Never Say "It's Just A Theory"

A portion of our culture distrusts the scientific method, assuming that there are transcendent truths unknowable by science. But nothing is truly out of bounds for science. If it's real, it can be studied, and tested. Perhaps the greatest misunderstanding our culture has about the scientif

Alternative Hypotheses: Main Ideas!!!

In Statistics, when we do Hypothesis Testing, we are supposed to have two hypotheses: A primary, or Null Hypothesis and an Alternative Hypothesis. This StatQuest explains why we need the Alternative Hypothesis, even though Hypothesis Testing tends to focus on the Null. NOTE: This StatQues

Step 2 of Hypothesis Testing: NULL and Alternative Hypothesis (14-6)

The second of the five steps of hypothesis testing is to establish the Null and Alternative Hypothesis. The Null Hypothesis states there is no difference between the experimental (sample) mean and the control (population) mean; therefore, any differences between the means are due to chance
