Apex (geometry)

In geometry, an apex (plural apices) is the vertex which is in some sense the "highest" of the figure to which it belongs. The term is typically used to refer to the vertex opposite from some "base". The word is derived from the Latin for 'summit, peak, tip, top, extreme end'. (Wikipedia).

Elliptic curves: point at infinity in the projective plane

This video depicts point addition and doubling on elliptic curve in simple Weierstrass form in the projective plane depicted using stereographic projection where the point at infinity can actually be seen. Explanation is in the accompanying article https://trustica.cz/2018/04/05/elliptic-

How to model Bevel Gears using Tredgold's Approximation (Gears pt 6/7)

Here I show how you can model a set of bevel gears in Fusion360 for 3D printing. I'm using Tredgold's approximation to obtain tooth profiles, which is one of a few techniques. Another well-known one is the gleason system. True spherical involutes are used very rarely. Files created in thi

Hannah Alpert (9/24/20): Combinatorial models of disk configuration spaces

Title: Combinatorial models of disk configuration spaces Abstract: The space of all arrangements of n disjoint disks of radius r in a polygon is hard to get our hands on. In order to approximate its geometric and topological properties, we'd like to replace it by a combinatorial model. Th

What is the sum for all of the interior angles of a polygon

👉 Learn about the interior and the exterior angles of a polygon. A polygon is a plane shape bounded by a finite chain of straight lines. The interior angle of a polygon is the angle between two sides of the polygon. The sum of the interior angles of a regular polygon is given by the formul

Ben Smith: Face structures of tropical polyhedra

Many combinatorial algorithms arise from the interplay between faces of ordinary polyhedra, therefore tropicalizing these algorithms should rely on the face structure of tropical polyhedra. While they have many nice combinatorial properties, the classical definition of a face is flawed whe

How to find the volume of an oblique pyramid

👉 Learn how to find the volume and the surface area of a pyramid. A pyramid is a 3-dimensional object having a polygon as its base and triangular surfaces converging at a single point called its apex. A pyramid derives its name from the shape of its base, i.e. a pyramid with a triangular b
