Van der Corput's method

In mathematics, van der Corput's method generates estimates for exponential sums. The method applies two processes, the van der Corput processes A and B which relate the sums into simpler sums which are easier to estimate. The processes apply to exponential sums of the form where f is a sufficiently smooth function and e(x) denotes exp(2πix). (Wikipedia).

The Vandermonde Matrix and Polynomial Interpolation

The Vandermonde matrix is a used in the calculation of interpolating polynomials but is more often encountered in the proof that such polynomial interpolates exist. It is also often encountered in the study of determinants since it has a really nice determinant formula. Chapters 0:00 - In

On The Complexity of Computing Roots and Residuosity Over Finite Fields - Swastik Kopparty

Swastik Kopparty Member, School of Mathematics February 1, 2011 We study the complexity of computing some basic arithmetic operations over GF(2^n), namely computing q-th root and q-th residuosity, by constant depth arithmetic circuits over GF(2) (also known as AC^0(parity)). Our main resul

The Correlation of Multiplicative Characters with Polynomials over Finite Fields - Swastik Kopparty

Swastik Kopparty Member, School of Mathematics April 22, 2011 This talk will focus on the complexity of the cubic-residue (and higher-residue) characters over GF(2^n) , in the context of both arithmetic circuits and polynomials. We show that no subexponential-size, constant-depth arithmet
