In geometry, Cayley's sextic (sextic of Cayley, Cayley's sextet) is a plane curve, a member of the sinusoidal spiral family, first discussed by Colin Maclaurin in 1718. Arthur Cayley was the first to study the curve in detail and it was named after him in 1900 by Raymond Clare Archibald. The curve is symmetric about the x-axis (y = 0) and self-intersects at y = 0, x = −a/8. Other intercepts are at the origin, at (a, 0) and with the y-axis at ± 3⁄8√3a The curve is the pedal curve (or roulette) of a cardioid with respect to its cusp. (Wikipedia).

Speaker: Tina Lorenz a love affair Pornography is an abstract phenomenon. It cannot exist without a medium to propagate it, and it has very little (if anything at all) to do with sex. The relationship between pornography, which is entirely fictional and sex, which is very real, very swe

The Sexual Fantasies of Others
Despite talk of liberation, our sexual lives remain the focus of immense amounts of shame. One way to deal with this is to expand - with dignity - evidence of what people are truly like. Here, some brave individuals reveal what it is they deep down want and think about. We applaud their co

Olivier Debarre: Gushel-Mukai varieties and their periods
Gushel-Mukai varieties are defined as the intersection of the Grassmannian Gr(2, 5) in its Plücker embedding, with a quadric and a linear space. They occur in dimension 6 (with a slighty modified construction), 5, 4, 3, 2 (where they are just K3 surfaces of degree 10), and 1 (where they ar

Visual Group Theory, Lecture 3.5: Quotient groups Like how a direct product can be thought of as a way to "multiply" two groups, a quotient is a way to "divide" a group by one of its subgroups. We start by defining this in terms of collapsing Cayley diagrams, until we get a conjecture abo
