Nonparametric statistics | Covariance and correlation

Rank correlation

In statistics, a rank correlation is any of several statistics that measure an ordinal association—the relationship between rankings of different ordinal variables or different rankings of the same variable, where a "ranking" is the assignment of the ordering labels "first", "second", "third", etc. to different observations of a particular variable. A rank correlation coefficient measures the degree of similarity between two rankings, and can be used to assess the significance of the relation between them. For example, two common nonparametric methods of significance that use rank correlation are the Mann–Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. (Wikipedia).

RELATIONSHIPS Between Variables: Standardized Covariance (7-1)

Correlation is a way of measuring the extent to which two variables are related. The term correlation is synonymous with “relationship.” Variables are related when changes in one variable are consistently associated with changes in another variable. Dr. Daniel reviews Variance, Covariance,

FRM: Spearman's rank correlation

Spearman's is more flexible measure of correlation because 1. It requires ordinal rather than cardinal variables and 2. It does not presume linear relationship (it is a measure of monotone dependence). For more financial risk videos, visit our website! http://www.bionicturtle.com
