Friedrich Hirzebruch

Friedrich Ernst Peter Hirzebruch ForMemRS (17 October 1927 – 27 May 2012) was a German mathematician, working in the fields of topology, complex manifolds and algebraic geometry, and a leading figure in his generation. He has been described as "the most important mathematician in Germany of the postwar period." (Wikipedia).

Differentiable manifolds and quadratic forms (revisited) Professor Matthias Kreck (Bonn University)

This is the title of a lovely book by two of my mathematical heroes: Friedrich Hirzebruch and Walter Neumann. I will add a little chapter to it by building a bridge from -manifolds to unimodular lattices in R^n via self dual binary codes. This is based on older work with Volker Puppe and m

Lars Martin Sektnan: Extremal Poincaré type metrics and stability of pairs on Hirzebruch surfaces

Abstract: In this talk I will discuss the existence of complete extremal metrics on the complement of simple normal crossings divisors in compact Kähler manifolds, and stability of pairs, in the toric case. Using constructions of Legendre and Apostolov-Calderbank-Gauduchon, we completely c

Stable Homotopy Seminar, 12: The Atiyah-Hirzebruch Spectral Sequence (Caleb Ji)

Caleb Ji gives us an overview of spectral sequences, focusing on the example of the Leray-Serre spectral sequence which is used to prove the equivalence of cellular and singular homology. He then defines the Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence, which is used to compute extraordinary cohomo
