LaTeX

LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system used extensively in academia and technical fields for producing scientific and mathematical documentation. Unlike a "what you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG) word processor, LaTeX allows authors to focus on the content and logical structure of their document by writing plain text with markup commands. The LaTeX system then interprets these commands to automatically handle complex layout, formatting, mathematical equations, cross-references, and bibliographies, producing a professionally formatted, publication-quality document, typically a PDF.
