Technical drawing tools | Mathematical tools
A straightedge or straight edge is a tool used for drawing straight lines, or checking their straightness. If it has equally spaced markings along its length, it is usually called a ruler. Straightedges are used in the automotive service and machining industry to check the flatness of machined mating surfaces. True straightness can in some cases be checked by using a laser line level as an optical straightedge: it can illuminate an accurately straight line on a flat surface such as the edge of a plank or shelf. A pair of straightedges called winding sticks are used in woodworking to make warping easier to perceive in pieces of wood. Three straight edges can be used to test and calibrate themselves to a certain extent, however this procedure does not control twist. For accurate calibration of a straight edge, a surface plate must be used. (Wikipedia).

Perpendicular Lines, Slope, Rays, and Segments | Geometry
This geometry video tutorial provides a basic introduction into perpendicular lines, slope, rays, line segments and right angles. Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other. Perpendicular Lines, Rays, and Line Segments intersect each other at right angles

Twelve Ways to Trisect an Angle – David Richeson
We all know that it is impossible to trisect an angle, right? It is impossible using only a compass and straightedge. But it is possible if we change the rules. For G4G12 we present a dozen ways to trisect an angle.

It is a very good time to be a mathematician. This millennium, while only a teenager, has already seen spectacular breakthroughs on problems like the Poincar´e Conjecture (solved by Grisha Perelman, who declined both a Fields Medal and a million dollar Clay Prize) and the near-resolution o

Dividing a Line into Seven Equal Segments (visual proof; straightedge and compass)
In a previous video, I showed how to decompose a circle into seven pieces each with the same area (https://youtu.be/KhfZK5IIK9E). Many people asked about a key step in that construction that I didn't include. So here I have animated the construction of dividing a line into 7 equal parts us

Compass and straightedge - the regular Heptadecagon
One of the oldest and best-known topics in the history of mathematics are compass and straightedge (or compass and ruler) constructions. I will not illustrate them here, and neither will I explain why it's so remarkable that the regular heptadecagon, the 17 equal-sided polygon, actually CA
